Rachel McAdams: A-list actress, Oscar nominee and multi-tasking new mother.
hile McAdams remains famously quiet when it comes to her personal life (she only confirmed she had, in fact, given birth several months after the fact), she posed for what might be best magazine cover of the year in a Versace ensemble, draped in Bulgari diamonds and accessories in the form of a breast pump. While shooting with Girls. Girls. Girls. magazine, the 40-year-old, who is breastfeeding her eight-month-old son, needed to take a number of breaks on set in order to pump and photographer Claire Rothstein took inspiration from this real-life situation for the issue.
Rothstein shared the image on Instagram with a lengthy caption saying their goal was to normalise breastfeeding and they had a "a mutual appreciation disagreement about who’s idea it was to take this picture" before sharing.
"A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture. Obviously #rachelmcadams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about 6 months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding," she wrote.
"We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about who’s idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more. Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of. I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great. Besides she’s wearing Versace and @bulgariofficial diamonds and is just fucking major. Big shout out to all the girls."
McAdams welcomed her son in April, her first, with boyfriend Jamie Linden and hasn't publicly shared the new arrival's name, telling the Sunday Times last month that she wants to protect her son's privacy as much as possible.
"want to keep [my son's] life private, even if mine isn’t. But I’m having more fun being a mom than I’ve ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me. Even the tough days, there’s something delightful about them," she said.
