Stay calm but this Irish designer has just teamed up with Converse for a seriously sexy shoe collection
Jonathan Anderson has described his collaboration with Converse as an “intimate portrayal” of himself.
The Northern Irish designer has teamed up with the famous footwear label and unveiled his designs on the catwalk during his J. W. Anderson Pitti Uomo show on Wednesday.
This partnership comes after Anderson announced he's created a clothing collection with Uniqlo and is part of the star’s creative strategy to reach a wider audience, though he was surprised at how personal his Converse collaboration was.
“It’s the first time I’m excited about projecting myself into product, which is a weird and new thing for me,” he told Business of Fashion. “The collection for me feels more like an intimate portrayal of myself. It’s the tactility of it. It’s how I see myself in the summer or how I want to be in the summer. It’s a character that is a fantasy of myself and a self portrait of what I’m into and what I wear.”
Noting he’s been wearing Converse for years and couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with the company when it approached him, Anderson’s Chuck Taylor designs are expected to hit stores in late fall.
While further details such as costs, exact dates of release and distribution are still unknown fans did get a glimpse of the footwear on the runway in Florence on Wednesday and Anderson himself has shared photos of the shoes on his Instagram page. One pair is a boot with one half green and the other half blue, with a black tongue separating the blocks.
Touching upon what the future holds for his label, Anderson added, “Ultimately I want to build a brand that one day someone else will do for me and inject newness into something that I have built.
"We have to keep it interesting and keep the momentum going and you have to keep challenging yourself, otherwise I would still be making ruffled shorts. Sometimes you have to change the fundamentals of what you’re into, which takes a lot of energy.”
