Orla Kiely has spoken about the surprise that comes with Kate Middleton wearing her designs.
Speaking on The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTE Radio 1, the renowned Irish designer said: "We don't know in advance, so it is a case of 'oh, holy smoke.'"
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a grey pleated Orla Kiely dress in both 2012 and 2015, as well as a brown printed dress coat in 2012.
"It's lovely when anyone in the public eye wears something," said Orla, who received an honorary O.B.E.
"She [Kate Middleton] wears a dress beautifully.
"It's something that you don't take for granted at all, so at that time it was great. I thought she looked cool in it [the dress]."
'The Kate effect' had lead to items of clothing selling out within minutes of Kate stepping out in them, and it was no different when she wore Orla's designs.
"It's good for business, absolutely," said Orla.
