Lauren Punter has gone from taking selfies on Instagram to landing a major contract with ASOS.

The leading online retailer  and UK agency Models 1 picked the Leicester native from thousands of entries to the #MakeMeACurveModel Instagram competition.

The 20-year-old says she “hesitated for ages” before uploading the selfie that landed her a coveted modelling contract, worried that she was wasting her time.

Pinching herself when she found out she won, Lauren told Vogue: “I entered the competition on the final day and I have never done anything like this or entered a competition like this before.”

The sales assistant is a size 18, and says she suffered from very low self esteem throughout her teens hiding in over sized, ill fitting clothes.

As she matured, she said she “realised body image is subjective” and has embraced her figure.

Landing herself a contract with Models 1's Curve division, an ASOS photo shoot, and €600 in ASOS vouchers, she said “I feel so proud and grateful to be representing plus-size models and women alike. Growing up it wasn't cool to be curvy, and the brands around at that time weren't cool either, but now thankfully times are changing.”

Times are changing indeed.

Instagram is fast becoming the go-to resource for recruiting new talent in the fashion industry.

Designer Marc Jacobs also scouted for new faces via the photo sharing platform by utilising the hashtag #CastMeMarc.
