At 16 and just a few weeks into her modelling career, Kaia Gerber has scored the most prestigious model moment during fashion month: opening for Chanel at Paris Fashion Week.
The supermodel-in-the-making, who has undoubtedly been getting some tips on working the catwalk from her legendary mother Cindy Crawford, said it was a dream come true.
"OPENING CHANEL! never in my life could I have even dreamt this. Karl, there are no words to describe how special this was to me. YOU'RE A LEGEND," she wrote on Instagram. Kaia opened today's showcase in a bouclé fringe crop top with oversized blazer and thigh high clear boots and visor. It's a nod to the future of the iconic French fashion house - its traditional pattern mimicked with an ab-baring design, not to mention the use of the teenage model.
Naturally, Crawford was sitting front and centre to cheer on her daughter and is enjoyed renewed vigeur in her already thriving career as she recently added Kaia, son Presley and husband Rande to her latest Omega campaign. Due to Kaia's young age and ever growing public interest, she is often accompanied by at least one of her parents at shows and parties.
Off the runway, she is the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty and recently appeared in a Chrome Hearts campaign. In 2014, she began dipping her toe into the modelling pool with her mother's approval and Crawford said she would be managing her burgeoning career carefully.
"I'm happy for her to be happy," she told the Evening Standard. "She's kind of chomping at the bit and the Teen Vogue piece seemed like an appropriate thing to do. I am very comfortable with the photographer, who is a woman I've worked with a lot and is a mother herself.
"When people ask me about my daughter, I feel like I could guide her in the right direction because I was able to navigate it. You can, it is doable."
This morning's show was designed on a faux cliff edge, having models arrive through constructed caves and waterfalls inside the Grand Palais, in a sure sign that Lagerfeld has outdone only himself this season. In previous years, Lagerfeld has mimicked supermarkets and casinos.
