'I shouldn't have to keep proving myself. I don't want to' - Supermodel Cindy Crawford retires ahead of 50th birthday
Cindy Crawford has hinted she is retiring from professional modelling ahead of her 50th birthday this month.
She was one of the original crop of supers who came to prominence in the early 90s along with Eva Herzigova, Naomi Campbell, Clauda Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington.
Speaking to Rhapsody Magazine, she said, "I'm sure I'll have my picture taken for 10 more years, but not as a model anymore.
"And that's ok. I've done it. I've worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can't keep reinventing myself. I shouldn't have to prove myself. I don't want to."
Crawford is stepping down at a time when designers are looking once again to older models.
Cindy appeared alongside fellow supers Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer in Balmain's SS16 ad and last week Armani's most recent campaign features Eva Herzigova, Nadja Auermann, Stella Tennant and Yasmin Le Bon.
However, Cindy is happy to pass the modelling mantel to her children Kaia, who has signed to international agency IMG, and Presley Gerber.
"When people ask me about my daughter, I feel like I could guide her in the right direction because I was able to navigate it," Cindy told the Evening Standard.
