Fashion-friendly capital gears up for style festival
Think style, not roadworks.
That’s the hopes of DublinTown, the collective of 2,500 businesses who are supporting the sixth Dublin Festival of Fashion which kicks off on Monday, September 7 and runs for a week with the aim of increasing fashion business in the capital.
Last year, the footfall in the city centre was 1.43 million over the four-day festival, which equates to an additional 41,000 people in the city centre.
This year, the event has been expanded to seven days due to the increased number of retailers taking part.
Over 200 retailers, restaurants, bars and hotels will take part in catwalk shows, exciting in-store events, photographic exhibitions, stylathons, late-night shopping, the Young Designer of The Year competition and the Creative Quarter night show.
Style queen Pippa O’Connor Ormond was yesterday named as the face of this year’s festival.
She officially launched the event at a gala party and fashion show at City Hall and she will host a live fashion show on the steps of Powerscourt House on Friday, September 11.
“I have always championed Irish style and I love the charm and energy of Dublin fashion. Nothing compares to shopping in the capital – there’s always something different to see and experience – so I’m really looking forward to what the festival has in store,” she said.
