Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier dies at 57 after cancer battle
Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier has passed away aged 57.
In April this year TMZ revealed that the French fashion expert had been battling cancer, Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). Christian was best known for his work with the alternative band Ed Hardy and helped make its destinctive skull and tattoo print famous.
Michele Elyzabeth, Christian's longtime publicist, issued a statement in the wake of Christian's passing to website latfusa.com, which broke the news.
"I just heard the news and I am truly devastated. Christian was an incredibly brilliant man. He will be missed," Michele said.
A source close to the late designer told the site that Christian had been re-admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles in the lead up to his death. He had reportedly been in a coma, but recently woke up.
It's thought Christian fought hard against the cancer, with TMZ previously claiming he had a bone marrow transplant on March 19 once he had finished his chemotherapy.
During his career he won over countless celebrities with his clothing and style knowledge, with famous fans in the form of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. He sold Ed Hardy to Iconix Brand Group Inc. for $62 million in 2011, but also had work at labels such as Guess, Levi's Diesel and American Outfitters under his belt.
