When it comes to fashion, florals are hardly groundbreaking and they are rarely off-trend in some form or another. For Autumn Winter 2019 florals are in full bloom, appearing in abundance across the catwalks of New York, London, Paris and Milan.

This new floral is anything but ditzy. This season's florals are large, ornate and nostalgic, reminiscent of a retro wallpaper print with full floral looks - including face masks - appearing on the catwalks.

At Erdem, florals and sprawling petals were utilised to emphasize the volume of the large, flowy dresses that closed the show. Richard Quinn splashed oversized florals - with daisies, roses, poppies and thorns all making an appearance - over voluminous coats, full-bodied skirts and evening gowns. Elsewhere, Tory Burch, Oscar de la Renta, Simone Rocha, Emilia Wickstead, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi all got busy with florals.

Top Tip

When it comes to wallpaper florals, make like the high-end labels and opt for styles with a muted base colour, such as black or navy, and bright, decorative petals splashed across for impact
