Christmas kick-off: Classic theme at top store
When Charles Dickens sat down to admire the first copy of his book 'A Christmas Carol', it was 1843. In London, Queen Victoria was on the throne, and in Dublin a new store opened on Henry Street.
Arnotts celebrates 175 years of that store this year and the theme in its festive goods shop is 'A Christmas Carol' with stock honouring the classic tale in rich burgundy, reds, greens and golds.
Festive cynics go mad at the idea of a three-month build-up to Santa but there are enthusiasts who crave yuletide opportunities long before the September leaves have turned copper.
The newly opened Arnotts Christmas shop has plunged into the decorating boom with a range of 7ft trees, 1,131 decorations and 114 baubles.
Actress and first-time mum Aoibhin Garrihy officially opened the shop, and said: "This year, more than ever, will be about family in our house. The arrival of our little bundle of joy, Hanorah, has brought a very close family even closer."
