Candice Swanepoel goes '90s retro for new denim collection
Candice Swanepoel thinks the butt is the most important aspect in a pair of jeans.
The blonde model has tried her hand at designing with a collaboration with denim brand Mother, featuring seven different styles of trousers such as high-waisted skinnies and cute short shorts.
During the creating process, Candice looked to one of her favourite labels for inspiration and the way its jeans caters to women's curves.
“The fit in the bum is very important to me - I like that old Levi’s look, but I still need there to be enough stretch in the bum so it doesn’t squash down. We really tried to perfect the way it fit in the bum and the waist,” she told vogue.com. “And then the ankles as well. It’s hard to get jeans on if they are so tight-fitting on the ankles!”
The denim shorts pay homage to Cindy Crawford's 1992 Pepsi Super Bowl commercial, in which she sips a can of Diet Pepsi in a pair of cut-offs and a white blouse. Candice describes the look as "girl off-duty" and thinks the image is one that's relaxed but still sexy.
She's been wearing samples of her designs for around a month now, impressing the likes of her fellow Victoria's Secret Angels. There's a good cause behind her collaboration too, with a portion of the proceeds going to South African charity mothers2mothers, which prevents HIV from being spread from mums to their children.
“I was looking for things that I have a personal connection to and so for years I’ve been trying to get more involved in things in South Africa. It is appropriate that it is mothers, and Mother for mothers2mothers,” she added. “It’s good to raise awareness, and for us to do what we can to help.”
To give her jeans a personal touch, Candice has created a unique logo - a swan in a pool to reflect her unusual surname.
