Pity poor Little Bo Peep.

She really must have got lost while looking for her sheep. Why else would she find herself on the red carpet? And she's not even in one of her Sunday best dresses. She must be mortified.

But, no, it seems that we've got it wrong.

That's no lost shepherdess. It's actually Katie Holmes who is committing a shocking crime against fashion in this voluminous off-the-shoulder yellow Marchesa gown with its horrendous red beading.

And what's worse is that the actress is doing it at the year's most stylish shindig – the Met Costume Gala.

What on earth was she thinking? Perhaps she mistakenly thought she was making some sort of homage to Scarlett O'Hara.

Someone should tell her that that diva wouldn't have been seen dead in this ill-fitting monstrosity, and as for that messy hair? Words (almost) fail us.

It's been reported that the former Mrs Tom Cruise is on the look-out for a new man. Well, a word to the wise, honey, you're not going to find one dressed in that yellow peril.

Victoria Beckham - Hit

She's just celebrated her 40th birthday, and here's proof (if hardly needed) that VB has learned exactly what works best for her.

It's hard to believe that this footballer's wife was once the ultimate WAG with her plunging necklines; high, high heels; and dodgy accessorising.

A style evolution later, and she looks elegant and stylish in a simple white gown – one of her own designs, natch.

If only she could give a few pointers to her style-challenged, former BFF Katie.

My Style Eimear McKeown (27), broadcast journalist and blogger

Here I'm wearing a dress and shoes from Asos and 1950s bag from Granny's Attic Vintage.

Audrey Hepburn is my ultimate style icon. I don't think there are many people now who can emulate her elegance.

Online, I love the The Vintage Handbook blog.

I also follow WishWishWish, The Pineapple Collective and Tar Mar Tales.

A plain black poloneck is my wardrobe essential; they're wonderful tucked into a pencil skirt, cigarette pants or high-waisted shorts.

The street style here is amazing, but I think that there's a lot of snobbery associated with fashion and labels.
