'They look like a very modern prince and princess' - Meghan and Harry are already doing it their own way
Behind the scenes, Meghan Markle has been slowly adjusting to royal life, but we finally got a glimpse of what to expect from her in her first introduction as a princess-to-be.
The American actress (36) appeared alongside her new fiancé Prince Harry (32) for their engagement photocall this afternoon, in a white dress coat by Canadian brand The Line, a signal that she is still treading the waters with her new royal role.
"I think it’s safe and probably a new departure for her with clean lines and wearing white to get the wedding excitement going," one of Ireland's top stylists Corina Gaffey tells Independent.ie Style.
"She has been edgier in the past but she looks really elegant and it was appropriate for the announcement. It’s obvious she was keeping it about the engagement rather than wearing something too flashy.
"They look like a very modern prince and princess. He looked great in his suit, it was nicely tailored, not old fashioned and they looked really happy, which is most important."
The bride-to-be gave a glimpse of her engagement ring, designed by Harry, which features a diamond from Botswana and two diamonds previously belonging to his late mother Princess Diana. The set-up was in stark contrast to Kate Middleton and Prince William's engagement announcement in 2010, held in the State Apartments of St. James Palace.
"Kate's engagement photos to Prince Williams were so set and staged and big budget, this seems more low-key and more them," Corina added. "It’s outside, her hair is blowing, it isn’t perfect –it’s showing the direction the royals are going in with Meghan.
"She isn’t a princess, she’s a regular girl."
And we already have a few predictions about the wedding dress! "It will be the same with her wedding dress, she’ll look for something timeless because it will be brought across the world."
"Everyone wants a piece of these photos of these photos so it will definitely be in keeping with the royals or people will look back and think, what was she wearing?"
