Modern Irish fashionistas embrace power dressing with a traditional twist - and we approve
Ah, Ladies Day - a revered event which remains as competitive - and inspiring - as ever.
With the main events of the summer officially wrapped since Thursday's ceremony at the Dublin Horse Show, there was something exciting brewing among this year's crop of competitive fashioinstas. Gone were the arm length gloves, matching frilled umbrellas and over-frilled looks of the past and in its place was an influx of creative, but understated headpieces, power suits and - gasp! - a modest heel, as they freed themselves of the shackles of traditional racing attire.
Events like the Galway Races and the Dublin Horse Show are unique in that they are, in contrast to events like weddings and black tie affairs, still very much beholden to the 'classic' view of dress. The type of event where a jumpsuit would turn heads for being 'brave' and 'unusual'.
But this year, Ladies Day was a delightful hodgepodge of best-dressed ladies: in recent days, pictures have poured in of women of all ages having the confidence to experiment, each more impressive than the last. While the top honours on Thursday went to a deserving winner Deirdre Kane, who embodied a modern mix of classic attire, it was the after-parties that allowed some women in particular to truly shine.
It honoured the Insta-stars who clearly took inspiration from the same platform that they enjoy such fame from. At House Dublin, Great Lengths, the hair extensions brand, threw a party - The Mane Event - for brand ambassadors and celebrities alike, while across town, the Continentally Classic event at the InterContinental Dublin also saw a host of familiar faces enjoy their sumptuous gardens across the road from the RDS.
