Meghan Markle mixes high and low fashion at her first royal event - with a €600 jacket
There's a new royal(ish) style icon in the making.
Prince Harry's girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle, made her first appearance at an official engagement with her boyfriend of 18 months, cheering him on (from a few seats away) at his Invictus Games in Toronto on Saturday night. The couple carefully avoided being photographed together, while Markle (36) attending with her close friend Markus Anderson, who introduced the couple back in 2016 at the same event.
And much like Kate Middleton, Markle's would-be sister-in-law, she is proving her fashion kudos early on with the ability to shift designer clothes at an alarming rate we now know as 'the Kate effect'. For Saturday's event, she wore the Beaune Dress by Wilfred for Canadian brand Aritzia: both a nod to her adopted home of Toronto and affinity for high street fashion.
The chiffon midi dress with sunburst pleats dress cost €119, but good luck getting your hands on one - it sold out in all four shades soon after she was pictured in it and it won't be restocked until February 2018. In keeping with Kate's high/low mantra, she finished off her California-cool look with a burgundy leather jacket by Mackage, but this one will cost you.
The "supple leather moto jacket" comes in at €584 and is also sold out. She opted for a pair of €475 Jimmy Choo's classic Anouk pumps in nude, a style preferred by her onscreen alter ego Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits, which has unsurprisingly also sold out.
It was revealed on Sunday that the 32-year-old prince had a "super low key" visit with his other half on set and more might be on the cards as he will be in town until September 30. Which means there's time for plenty more style stalking.
