Darren Kennedy: Let's rock! From leather trousers to bucket hats, menswear is ready to party for SS19
Some men might hear the words 'leather trousers' and run a mile, but there's no denying their prevalence on the Spring/Summer runways. Usually the terrain of rock 'n' roll musicians, this season leather trousers of all varieties made a convincing case.
At Celine, Hedi Slimane brought his signature club-kid-meets -glam-rocker aesthetic to the fore and presented slim-leg (but not skin-tight) leather trousers with double-breasted blazers, while at Balenciaga, leather trousers of a similar fit with lace-up detailing were paired with loose, retro shirts. And for the adventurous, well, there's always the all-in-one leather jumpsuits as seen at Givenchy and Cottweiler.
Leather trousers are somewhat of a throwback, but they're not the only music scene staple to make a comeback. Tie-dye, bucket hats, 1990s rave gear and '80s day-glo colours, such as lime green, all made an impact on the runways this season. Expect to see at a festival near you.
As for suiting, an emerging trend seems to be - wait for it - bare chests, as models at Dior Men, Hermès and Dunhill were all seen rocking two-piece suits sans shirts. At Dior Men, Kim Jones offered the most enticing way to 'DIY' this trend: a minimal flash of skin, a relaxed fit suit and cool trainers. Choker, optional.
When both the colour and the cut of a suit is this impressive, all one needs is a simple white tee to complement it. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali earned himself a place on best dressed lists by donning a punchy copper two-piece suit and contrasting it with a royal blue pocket square. That’s what I call power dressing.

You won't get a holiday for less than €40, but luckily you can fake a sun-kissed look for that amount. A subtle bronzer for men can be hard to come by, but this tanning product by Le Labo is receiving rave reviews. The plant-based offering is enriched with turmeric and sunflowers to ensure a smooth, streak-free finish, while bergamot and lavender mask that dreaded fake tan scent. A springtime glow never sounded so easy.
