Face the bracing winter chills with a new regime

It's finally time to admit it. I need help! I've been in denial for the last couple of months, but I finally have to face the facts. It's time to embrace the seasons, and autumn-proof my skincare regime.

Dove Cream Oil Nourishing Body Lotion, €6.49:

Very hydrating and almost instantly absorbed, this leaves skin feeling super soft and not at all greasy. But it is definitely fragranced, which may not be to everyone's liking... I quite liked the scent, but I didn't mourn too much when it faded after a few minutes. Good value.

Yes to Carrots Nourishing Moisturising Eye Cream, €13.25:

I may have swapped my usual gel for cream, but I definitely don't want anything too rich sinking into my fine lines! This organic, paraben-free formulation meets my current wish list; it's nicely cooling, has a sufficiently light texture to be worn under make-up and it lasts and lasts and lasts. Particularly good for those with dry skin.

Eau Thermale Avene Cold Cream for Hands, €9.66:

My hands hate the cold, turning red whenever the mercury dips below 10 degrees. This rich cream soothes any irritation, leaving them feeling and looking so much healthier. Available in a handy handbag size.

Voya Me Time Moisturiser, €57:

Central heating and colder weather add up to a double whammy on skin, leaving it parched and in need of a little TLC. Although it's rich, this anti-ageing cream doesn't clog pores and leaves skin feeling soft and well protected against environmental nasties.

Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment, €16.99:

Say goodbye to chapped lips with this thick, soothing balm. Although it's technically a repairing treatment, its deeply hydrating formula (which is chock-ful of soothing emollients) can be used as a daily treat, and it's happy to co-exist with your favourite lippie too. Particularly healing for lips that have been a bit too exposed to the elements.

this week. . .

* This week, I'm channelling my inner Rihanna (yes, really!) with a little help from the singer's latest collaboration with MAC. Just like herself, I'm loving the RiRi Loves MAC Powder Blush Duo in Hibiscus Kiss (€30). I'm also dipping into the trend for midnight nails by coating them in Rimmel's Lasting Finish Nail Polish in Black Cab (€6.49). A single slick gives the right effect, but apply two coats for a dark-as-night look and finish up with a glossy top coat for a touch of glamour.

Finally, I'm, shush whisper it, getting into the festive spirit by treating myself to Bobbi Brown's new, limited edition Smokey Warm Eye Palette (€48 – also available cool-toned version, aka Smokey Cool). Yes, it's pricey, but this mix of six darkly delicious shades (the Golden Chocolate Metallic shadow is particularly tempting) is the perfect accessory this autumn.

beauty spot

* "When you are cleansing with a muslin cloth, day and night, hold the steaming cloth on your face for a slow count of five. Don't rush it or start rubbing your face. The steam activates your superficial circulation and softens surface skin cells. If you repeat this three or four times, it's as though you've had a mini-facial. Then spritz your face with a face mist and pop on a bit of moisturiser or face oil, and your skincare's done." – Sharon McGlinchey, founder of the cult Australian beauty line MV Organic Skincare.
