Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge "isn’t a style icon", according to top fashion experts.

The 29-year-old royal married Prince William at Westminster Abbey in April. Since being launched into the international spotlight, people across the globe have admired her chic fashion choices.

However, it’s been claimed Catherine would not make a big impact against the likes of supermodels and fashion-forward stars in America.

Elle fashion news director Anne Slowey broached the subject at New York Fashion Week. The style expert claimed that it was only because of her fame as a member of the royal family that people are interested in what Catherine wears.

"Is she a style icon of the likes of a Kate Moss? Absolutely not. Is she in the public eye? Are people going to become obsessed with everything she wears regardless of what it is? Yes,” she told British newspaper The Daily Mail.

Another leading fashion expert says the duchess is far from being innovative with her style choices. Gregg Andrews, a fashion director at leading US department store chain Nordstrom, says the stunning star has beautiful looks but is lacking when it comes to trend-setting.

"She is stylish but she's not setting trends, she's following trends.

"If you take Kate out of the Royal Family, put her on a street in New York, you wouldn't look at her twice. She's a beautiful woman, but she blends into a crowd."

The duchess wore a stunning lace wedding gown that was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Fashion writer Jill Martin predicted that the gorgeous creation would be a style followed by many brides next spring.
