A final-year student at the Grafton Academy, Umit (29) from Glenageary, Co Dublin, yesterday won the Gillette Venus Dress of Your Dreams Competition 2011.
His entry was chosen by Galway-born designer Joanne Hynes who is fast ascending the ladder of international fashion.
Her autumn-winter collection is being shot for 'Vogue' magazine next week by internationally acclaimed photographer, Mario Testino.
Joanne chose Umit's entry for his attention to detail and the "quality finish" of his garment. The title comes just weeks after Umit won the prestigious DIT Fashion Award. The brief was to design a red-carpet style dress that Jennifer Lopez might wear.
Umit, originally from Istanbul, said "I am absolutely thrilled to have won."
