Darren Kennedy: Well padded... Get ready to cocoon this winter
Tailoring continues to get a sportswear twist, courtesy of details like contrast piping, drawstring waists and ribbed cuffs, all added to a clean-cut silhouette. It's part of yet another display of sartorialism with an athletic edge.
Cementing the idea that comfort is key, padded elements play a major role for winter 2018, with voluminous down outerwear and quilted pants appearing in several big-brand collections.
In Paris, Maison Margiela presented padded puffer jackets and floor-sweeping high-shine anoraks. Meanwhile, Italian powerhouse Fendi presented a cropped padded cape with a matching maxi skirt, for a super chic take on the trend.
Multiple versions of the padded jacket are on the horizon with North Face involved in some very cool collaborations. All I can say is: get ready to cocoon, it feels great!
Actor Sarah Paulson made quite a statement in this mix of punk-tinged fringing with a classic 1950s’ silhouette. Keeping the look contemporary, she completed the ensemble with Calvin Klein’s contrast ankle-strap pumps and a green clutch.
