Darren Kennedy: The go-to 'tin of fruit'
Worn as a whole or as separates, the suit is the hardest working item in your wardrobe
It's a common myth that a suit must always be worn as a whole. Remember when you buy a suit, you are in fact buying two pieces of clothing, or indeed three if getting a waistcoat. Worn separately, these items can become the hardest-working garments in your wardrobe.
With the line between formal and casual-wear becoming increasingly blurred, now is the perfect time to reconsider your wardrobe, and in particular your 'tin of fruit'.
This season, the trend for tailoring to loosen up continues, with wide-leg trousers and slouchy cuts becoming casual go-tos. Laid-back suits are now every man's (and many women's) downtime hero - worn, not with a shirt and tie, but with a T-shirt. Donning a trench is the easiest way to inject some serious old-school style into any outfit - it's an ageless classic. Think Paul Newman, Humphrey Bogart and Brad Pitt - all champions of the trench.
Look out for pieces with contemporary touches such as leather detailing on the collar, epaulettes or cuffs. During the recent Paris Fashion Week, French powerhouse Céline featured menswear for the first time in the brand's 73-year history, including many of our favourite pieces. Affirmation if ever it was needed.
Natalie Portman is a vision in this custom-made Gucci sequinned gown at the premiere of Vox Lux at the Venice Film Festival. The bold shoulders, the plunging neckline with contrasting silver embellishment, the bow-belt...
I love it all from head to toe.

Oribe's Silverati Shampoo is specially formulated to brighten grey or silver hair. It's blended with blue and silver pigments that eliminate dullness and neutralise yellow tones (often occurring due to pollution or smoking). Nourishing coconut and corn-derived cleansers gently restore the hair to full health without stripping it of natural oils and moisture, while watermelon, lychee and edelweiss flower protect against free radical damage, preventing further signs of premature ageing. Priced €43 at SpaceNK, Grafton Street, Dublin.
Dress down your tailoring by replacing your shirt with a tee or lightweight sweater. Opt for a double-breasted suit in navy with a slim-tailored profile, which works well when worn with a simple white T-shirt and white trainers.
