Darren Kennedy: Take the silk road
Luxurious fabric adds a feminine touch to winter styling.
Sumptuous silk got a recent reboot, with the unabashedly feminine fabric dominating the designs from many of the big fashion houses. Admittedly it's not the most obvious choice of fabric for wintry weather but silks, and indeed satins, filled the season's catwalks.
Emilia Wickstead presented silk gowns in powder pink, creating a hyper-feminine, romantic look. Elsewhere, Diane von Furstenberg experimented with silk robes, while Prada went back to the fabric's oriental roots, experimenting with details such as Mandarin collars and wrap fronts on silk separates.
The great thing about injecting silk into your winter wardrobe is that you'll continue to get plenty of wear out of it well into spring and summer, should you wish. For the colder months, it's all about the styling - pair silk with your winter staples like a chunky knit, denims and leather to give it an edge.
Reclaim your granny’s silk scarf, style as a neckerchief and wear nonchalantly to let loose your inner Parisian for a chic take on silk this season.
