Pull together a retro look for your summer wardrobe.

Drawing inspiration

In case you missed the memo, the 80s are very much back in the spotlight at the moment, in fashion terms at least. One particular throwback look making a strong return is the drawstring. No longer just the preserve of tracksuit bottoms, this season drawstrings make their way into your summer wardrobe on a host of garments. Drawstring detailing was a recurring theme on the runways as designers played with proportion and drama. Marni, Preen, Versace and Sportsmax were just some of the brands that created volume and then pulled it in, using drawstrings to manipulate the silhouette by nipping in waists, shaping shoulders, and in some cases, purely as a decorative detail with drawstrings adding interest to pockets, cuffs or creating a ruching effect on sleeves and skirts.

Top tip

There’s a subtle side to fashion’s dramatic drawstring. Avoid ultra-ruching and just add a drawstring to a casual jacket, a pair of trousers, a skirt, or a detail such as a cuff or a hood to get a hint of the look.

Stylish Getaway

Gather your best friends and take a trip to the Marble City for a stay at the four-star Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel, in the heart of the city. The beautifully restored building is just footsteps away from the buzz of Kilkenny’s main attractions. Check in on the Friday night for a Suite Sleepover with indulgent treats waiting in your room on arrival such as hot, buttered popcorn and homemade marshmallows.

The following day, wake up to a freshly prepared breakfast before setting out to explore the cobbled streets and lane-ways of medieval Kilkenny. Enjoy dinner and cocktails in the stylish Harper’s Restaurant and then dance the night away in a specially reserved VIP area in Morrissons Late Bar, with a bottle of bubbles waiting on ice. Bespoke activities such as dance classes, cocktail classes or whiskey tasting can all be arranged. Suite Sleepover package prices start from €180pps for two nights, based on two people sharing.
