Darren Kennedy: Praise be for the return of pleats!
A pleated midi-length skirt is in the repertoire of virtually every stylish woman I know. While this item is no doubt a timeless classic, it's also bang on trend right now.
For autumn/winter, there was an array of accordion, knife and kick pleats sent sashaying down the catwalk. At Joseph, creative director Susana Clayton opted to style pleated plaid skirts with boxy blazers in the same print, while JW Anderson toned down the girliness by pairing a cream pleated skirt with androgynous black boots and a T-shirt. To elevate this hero piece for night-time, look to Simone Rocha and Lanvin for inspiration, and go for a sheer pleated overlay with a slinky slip underneath. Or, break the rules altogether by wearing yours over a pair of wide-legged trousers, as seen at Valentino. These designers proved that there is a myriad of ways to work the trend, and luckily there are plenty of options in stores now, both high street and high end.
One for the boys
There are so many reasons to dislike this temperamental January weather - not least because it causes dry, chapped lips. While one of the best ways to combat this is to keep hydrated by drinking lots of water, it's no harm to call on one of the most tried-and-tested beauty products of all time. Vaseline is a true pocket hero, managing to repair your lip barrier while locking in moisture. Bonus points for the retro-look tin.
At Balenciaga, models wore their shin-grazing black pleated skirts with neon mohair jumpers, chain necklaces and chunky belts - a look every woman could easily emulate for work or play.
