Last season's love affair with pink has moved further along the colour wheel with designers favouring pastel washes for Spring/Summer '18.

Lilac stood head and shoulders above the rest as the most popular hue. Shades of lilac and lavender have a modern, sophisticated and, at times, almost ethereal feel. The colour experts at the Pantone Colour Institute named 'Ultra Violet' as the 2018 Pantone colour of the year, describing it as a "provocative and thoughtful purple shade". A glance at the catwalks demonstrates how designers have embraced it: from relaxed tailoring at Victoria Beckham to full head-to-toe looks at Tibi, and a high-gloss bomber and '80s-style joggers at Tom Ford.

Work the trend into your everyday style by wearing a lavender jumper with grey wool trousers or a glossy, black pencil skirt. The key is keeping it simple and pared back.
