Arguably inspired by the remnants of the athleisure trend which has proliferated catwalks over the last number of years, the two-piece is a welcome addition to our wardrobes this year.

The perfect answer to smart-casual needs, the two-piece possesses all the ease and comfortability of sportswear but without any of the stuffiness or familiarity of formalwear. It's the perfect antidote to a worn-out suit, easily dressed up or down.

Oliver Spencer excelled this season with an oversized houndstooth option in a collection that also re-emphasised the versatility of corduroy. He wasn't alone, as a host of designers gave a nod to '70s vibes. Corduroy is making a mega comeback this year, from chunky suits and the perfect two-piece made of brown corduroy at Prada, to corduroy jackets with shearling collars at Marc Jacobs. Gucci presented corduroy in signature fashion - with a bright blue covered in ditsy yellow flowers.

TOP TIP

Take a leaf out of Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot’s book by pairing pink with red for a contrasting look that speaks for itself — sexy and chic.

Gal Gadot definitely knows how to banish any winter blues. Her Oscar de la Renta ensemble is a classic suit with a modern cut and a preppy sensibility.

The Princess Grace Suite at The Shelbourne has been refurbished, making it a truly regal retreat. Guy Oliver, of the established London design company Oliver Laws, has created a scheme that reflects the traditional nature of The Shelbourne as well as its historical importance. The newly-refurbished area is the hotel’s elite presidential suite. A luxurious space with two bedrooms, it’s the best room available at the five-star property. To celebrate the refurbishment, The Shelbourne is offering an exclusive overnight stay for a couple, or group of up to four guests, to experience the kind of service and level of attention to which the Princess herself was accustomed. With Champagne on arrival, unpacking and packing of luggage, butler service, lavish breakfast for all guests, complimentary Dublin Airport transfers, and complimentary newspapers, valet parking, internet access and daily amenities, this plush package costs €7,500 per night for up to four guests.
