Darren Kennedy: Ice-cream season
Layer on pale pastels for a chilled spring look
Despite the erratic weather, the first flushes of spring are finally starting to show. Time to prepare your wardrobe for longer days and milder weather. Let's be honest: even if the weather isn't up to much, an injection of novelty is always a welcome wardrobe addition.
Ice-cream pastels and dusty tones are big news this season, with a softer approach to colour for spring. The romantic shades (think violet, lemon sorbet, pistachio and pale pink) popped up on runways at all the major fashion capitals. Most notably at JW Anderson, Peter Pilotto, Hermès, Gucci, Tom Ford, Preen and Victoria Beckham. Pastel tones are hardly groundbreaking for spring, but the newness this year comes in how they are worn, with layers and layers of the same tone piled on, to create head-to-toe looks - making it surprisingly easy to concoct. Simply stack those ice-cream pastels on top of one another for maximum impact.
