You may remember a couple of seasons ago I was singing the virtues of culottes, one of 2014's must-haves and as I described them then "the trend to try this year". Well the good news is if you did invest, they remain a firm fixture for 2015.

And if you didn't, there's plenty of time to get on board the culottes bandwagon as they gather momentum and gain broader appeal. More than a few designers including Céline, Jill Sander, J. Crew and Stella McCartney capitalised on the garment's popularity for Spring 2015. Designers' cutting techniques have been refined too, resulting in an easier-to-wear, more flattering cropped trouser. Generally speaking, culottes create an A-line shape and therein lies the trick to pulling them off. When it comes to wearing culottes, think of them as you would a modern A-line shaped skirt and style accordingly. Play with their billowing proportions by tucking in a shirt or blouse to emphasise a cinched-in waist and finish with a great heel. The more adventurous will style a high-waisted pair with a midriff-revealing crop top and a chunky heeled sandal. Another option is to combine two of this season's trends with a culottes-style jumpsuit to take any party wardrobe to the next level.
