There's so much iconography associated with the wild, wild West and spaghetti westerns, but it mainly revolves around swashbuckling cowboys and their hats, chaps and neckerchiefs. This season, the cowgirl took her rightful place in the spotlight.

The Western theme was evident at Isabel Marant, Fendi, Calvin Klein, Etro and Chloe to name a few. Isabel Marant's models wore their flowing prairie dresses with steel-tipped boots as they stomped down the catwalk to Dolly Parton's Jolene. At Alberta Ferretti, we saw rodeo-style hats, studded black denim jumpsuits and chunky, engraved silver buckled belts. Dean and Dan Caten, the Canadian twins behind DSquared2, also went quite literal, showcasing cowhide waistcoats, bolo necklaces, fringed detailing and plenty of leather fringing.

I didn’t think there was anyone who could convince me that cycling shorts could be elegant, until I saw Marion Cotillard , the epitome of French chicness, rocking them front row during the recent couture shows in Paris. Her pair were, of course, by Chanel. The actress elevated the shorts with the addition of a slightly oversized jacket, a quilted Chanel bag and gold-tipped perspex shoes by Gianvito Rossi.I think her look proves that when it comes to pulling off lycra sports shorts, it’s all about how you balance the proportions.

One for the boys

Zac Efron is the latest celebrity to go full-on platinum blond. From Zayn Malik and Luke Evans to Lionel Messi, it seems that more and more men are trying out this 1990s-style hair trend. Before you even think about it, this is not something you want to do a DIY job on! Ensure you have a consultation with a qualified colour expert to avoid turning your hair a brassy shade of yellow or orange. Once dyed, invest in quality products like a violet-based shampoo and conditioning masque to keep the colour intact. Intensive Repair Conditioner, €30, Sachajuan from mrporter.com

Top Tip

Animal print is still having a major moment. I'm not suggesting you hang up your leopard maxi dresses and silk skirts just yet, but simply swapping them out for some cow print is an easy way to play around with the Western trend. Keep your eyes peeled for belts and bags, which look great with black skinny jeans and a leather jacket.
