Coveted Tom Ford creation hits Brown Thomas
BATMAN, eat your heart out. As caped crusaders go, Tom Ford's maxi cream dress is a sensation, with asymmetric neckline and column cape.
Gwyneth Paltrow stole the show on the Oscars red carpet in February when she wore the dress with matching floor-length cape, providing the first glimpse of Ford's autumn/winter 2012 collection.
This week, the iconic dress landed Brown Thomas, Grafton St, Dublin -- with a price tag of €5,270.
Its uniqueness earned it the coveted end-of-show slot at the AW12 fashion-press preview at the store yesterday. With only one available in Ireland, you can expect lots of fashionable curiosity about this winged wonder, which was Ford's personal favourite because it is "dead plain".
The upcoming season pulses with colour and print, with strong digital imagery from Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou. The new boy in store, Canadian-Turkish designer Erdem, delivers winter florals on white and a very girlie black lace dress with swing skirt.
But it was his intuitive use of tweed which caught the eye. His €1,980 day-to-night dress features a lace-like print yoke over a chartreuse tweed bodice-type top, the ties of an obi-style belt sitting out over a slimline skirt.
Stella McCartney is equally taken with tweed this season and her brown coat (€1,750) with nipped-in waist and slanting side pockets also played to the female form, following the line of the hips. She added a sporting touch at the neck with a striped baseball/varsity jacket collar.
