Clever Couture: Burberry from catwalk to high street

Niamh O'Rourke

Let loose the tribal trend. We've seen plenty of safari references in the past few seasons with khaki tailoring and animal prints on offer, but this current Afrocentric take is more about craft.

Everything from batik prints, raffia trim, beadwork and carved embellishments define the look.

Alexander Wang and JW Anderson gave it a cool street edge while Burberry and Donna Karan worked it through with sophistication. Burberry's rich colour palette of deep aubergine, mustard and terracotta with pops of turquoise and cobalt give a luxurious foundation. Silhouettes are contemporary with trenches, parkas and pencil skirts keeping the look chic.

This nipped skirt in ink blue and straw from Marks and Spencer is a superb high street alternative. For a trend-focused take, give it a hit of handspun texture with this woven bag and beaded sandals.
