Carine Roitfeld dresses for her age
Carine Roitfeld’s daughter has a better wardrobe than the star as it contains all Carine’s old clothes.
The former editor of French Vogue has strict rules about what she can and can’t wear as she’s getting older. Certain things are out of the question now she’s 57, such as short skirts and extremely tight tops.
Instead of throwing them away, she gives them to her 31-year-old daughter Julia Restoin Roitfeld.
“As you get older, you must never share your wardrobe with your daughter. Never ever. You will never look beautiful in a jean jacket and a mini-skirt, even if you have a beautiful body. You have to wear something for your age or you will look really ridiculous. There are too many 50-year-olds dressing as 20-year-olds,” Carine said.
“No [I’ve never borrowed clothes from Julia]. I give her mine when I think I can't wear them anymore. Now she has a better wardrobe than me.”
Carine is usually seen in tight skirts, nipped-in jackets and tights. It’s a look which works well for her, but she does dress down too.
“Of course!” she laughed, when guardian.co.uk asked her if she ever dons jeans.
“Never while going to Vogue. At the magazine my assistants were wearing jeans; for me, I needed to be different. But I wear them a lot on holidays, and at home I wear a lot of leggings because I do a lot of ballet.”
