What: Semi-Permanent Eyebrows
Where: The Brow Artist, Ranelagh and Bantry, Co Cork
Why: Because the perfect brow is now as important as the perfect dress
How much: €650, price includes top-up appointments
We all now appreciate the importance of good brows and yearn for the perfect arch. However, due to over-zealous plucking over the years, most of us have destroyed our chances of achieving them naturally, so the professionals must be called upon. There are a few salons that offer semi-permanent brows, but none come better recommended than The Brow Artist in Dublin and Cork. The treatment, which uses the process of micropigmentation and involves regular visits to their brow salon, lasts 18-24 months. Check out their Facebook page for before and after pics, you'll be totally sold.
Where: Selected beauty and skin therapy salons nationwide
Why: Because every bride wants youthful, glowing skin on their big day
How much: From €200 per session
A breakthrough non-surgical treatment that uses a spikey dermaroller to alleviate common skin complaints including acne, scarring and wrinkles. Your skin will be left a little red, scratched and tender for a day or two, so it's not advisable to try this treatment in the days before your wedding. But those I know who have had it done rave about the results.
What: Ice and Fire Facial
Where: Selected salons nationwide including Heaven Salon, Rathmines, Dublin, and Lanu Medi Spa, Drogheda, Co Louth
Why: Because a quality facial is a necessary part of every bride's routine
How much: Approximately €80
The latest and greatest facial, I'm told. As the name suggest, it involves cooling and heating of the skin to draw out impurities and promote renewal. All I can say for sure is that a friend who's getting married this month has just finished a course of this treatment (four in total), and, holy moly, her skin is amazing. It's not that her skin was bad before, far from it, but it has a new glow about it. And she looks so much younger.
What: MiniMi Body Wraps
Where: Selected salons nationwide, including Akina Beauty Salon, Dublin, and Mediglow, Douglas, Co Cork
Why: Because we'll do ANYTHING to make that dress fit and flatter
How much: From €65 per treatment
For exercise-phobic brides-to-be, such as myself, this is a godsend. It's apparently so effective that you can lose two inches off your waist in just one session. Yes please. Also, unlike other body wraps, this is oil-based, so it works as a treatment for the skin too. Sold.
What: Aveda Botanical Hair & Scalp Therapy Treatment
Where: Moyo Hairdressing, Charlotte Way, Dublin 2
Why: Because great hair starts at the roots
How much: €80 including blow-dry
I think that after the formaldehyde debacle associated with the 12-week blow-dry, we've gone full circle and are now opting for a more wholesome approach to haircare. This entirely holistic, ultra-relaxing treatment, which takes an hour, will leave your hair and scalp feeling and looking bridal-ready.
