In a landmark fashion show, Oscar de la Renta post every look and backstage photos onto their Pinterest page.
When Burberry tweeted every look from backstage their spring/summer 2012 show, the fashion world was flabbergasted. No sooner had the models stepped onto the runway than pictures of them were winging their way through cyberspace, arriving on your phone, iPad or laptop within seconds. Who knew fashion could be this fast?
But if there's one world more fickle than fashion, it's the world of technology, and since last September traditional social networking sites have become the old (though still hugely popular) news of the cyber-world, making way for new website Pinterest .
The website, which allows you to 'pin' pictures onto a cyber-scrapbook for all to see, was last month named the fastest growing website of all time with 17million users joining the site in March alone. And it's not taken long for the fashion world to catch on with everyone from Topshop to Dolce & Gabbana starting their own pages.
In a landmark move during this year's Bridal Fashion Week in New York, Oscar de la Renta added pictures of every look in their bridal show to its Pinterest page yesterday, allowing followers to view every look as it hit the runway, as well as exclusive backstage shots of the jewellery and close-up photos of the garment detail, often much closer than one would see even from the front row.
Add this to increasingly popular live-streaming and backstage tweeting and you can get all the best bits of a fashion show from the comfort of your own sofa. Who said the fashion world was exclusive?
