Christmas is coming and we’re all eagerly writing our lists and racking our brains trying to decide what to get for our friends, boyfriends, sisters, etc. I’m hoping do it all in one fell swoop in Powerscourt Shopping Centre. I’m particularly looking forward to mooching around in BOW Boutique. It’s quickly become a regular haunt for fashion loving folk who are looking for something different. It’s also owned by three Irish designers.

Now, more than ever before, it’s important to support home-grown talent. Sometimes that notion sounds like a duty rather than a pleasure but not anymore. I can assure you that a trip to BOW will only end in pleasure and a serious assault on your credit card! Wendy Crawford, one of the owners, tells me about her favourite pieces from BOW this season, what you should be buying and how it works being part of a creative collective…

What 3 words would you use to describe BOW?

Quirky, unique and friendly!

What brands do you stock?

Wendy's Wardrobe Vintage, Eilis Boyle, MoMuse jewellery, Tim Ryan, Louloubelle bags, Camilla Norrback, Peopletree, Manley, Electronic Sheep, Lucy Downes.

Are they all Irish?

All our brands are Irish with the exception of our two Eco and fairtrade labels, Peopletree and Camilla Norrback. The vintage comes mostly from Paris but is often upcycled by Wendy's Wardrobe, therefore putting an Irish spin on it!

As a collective, how does the dynamic work?

The dynamic between the three girls works really well, we all bring our own distinct strengths to the table and in turn really support each other. There's no one in charge, we all have our jobs to do and we just get on with it!

How do you compete with the high street when they consistently price their pieces at lower prices?

In short, we don't! We are offering something completely different and unique to our customers. People who shop in BOW don't want to be part of the herd fashion wise which is why our unique products suit them. Because of the welcoming boutique environment we offer we have fantastic loyal clients, a lot of whom are more like friends now.

What trends are you loving this A/W?

This AW we’re loving all the knitwear and leather combinations. The mix of textures is fab!

What is your staple go-to classic piece? My staple go to is my denim. Skinny jeans are part of my DNA at this point, I'm rarely out of them! Eilis Boyle cashmere scarves are another staple, I'm always raving about their softness and versatility.

What's currently on your wish-list?

This winter I’m looking for the perfect pair of black vintage boots for everyday running around, an Electronic Sheep blanket scarf to keep me warm outside and on the couch at home! I’ll also be investing in something by Tim Ryan as I've got a wedding in January and his evening style knitwear will be perfect.

If I were to buy one thing from BOW this season what should it be?

I think it would have to be an Eilis Boyle cashmere neck tie with bow detail. They're so cute and really add to any outfit, even a T-shirt and jeans is instantly perked up with this simple piece!
