Best Dressed at Cannes: Week Two
Classic cuts, impressive embellishment and vivid colours top the list of last night’s best dressed at Cannes.
At The Search premiere, Model and mum Lara Stone made a striking turn in a hot pink column gown from Calvin Klein. This custom made dress with asymmetric strap detailing is one of my sartorial highlights from the festival thus far. Looking noticeably svelte, Lara went for minimal accessories; a simple diamond bracelet and stud earrings were the only addition required.
The Search star Bérénice Bejo made an admirable attempt to stand out on the red carpet against the iridescent gowns chosen by others. In a velvet navy bustier dress by Alexis Mabille she epitomised classic French chic. She completed her look with a matching clutch and Chopard earrings.
Fellow French actress and member of the Italian Royal Family, Clotilde Courau wore a shimmering gold lace Valentino gown from the Pre Fall 2014 collection. With slicked back hairdo and eye catching orange and gold necklace, Clotilde’s outfit was befitting of a modern princess.
World class beauty Aishwarya Rai made her second appearance on the Cannes red carpet last night, again opting for Roberto Cavalli. The full length white gown is complete with delicate silver fringing and ornate art-deco embellishment. Diamond drop earrings, a glossy blow dry and cobalt nails rounded off this A-list look to perfection.
Model Coco Rocha is as well known for her quirky style as her editorial work. At the Puerto Azul Experience event, the Canadian model wore a white pant suit by Roberto Cavalli. Tuxedos are a sure fire way for femme fatales to stand out at an event; the painstaking lace and beaded detail in Coco’s two piece elevates this look from ‘try hard’ to staunch individual. A diamond ear cuff, dramatic lips and silk button up shirt finish off this ‘power outfit’.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a guaranteed knock out on every occasion. She didn’t disappoint last night, captivating the world’s attention in a delicate Gucci Premiére gown. The powder blue strapless gown featured tonal beaded detail throughout. De Grisogono earrings and her signature beauty look of smoky eyes and a pink pout complemented the entire package.
My wild card entry into this best dressed list goes to Lily Allen. At the Chanel and Vanity Fair hosted dinner party, Lily opted for a tweed knee length dress from Chanel’s Spring 2012 Couture collection. The square necked tweed dress with paillette detailing was perfect for Lily’s kitsch sense of style. I’m not a fan of the Louboutin, clawed manicure or dated butter-milk coloured clutch- but an impressive effort for the singer all the same.
