Bairbre Power: Irish brands to love in AW17
Supporting homegrown labels is good for your wardrobe this season
I am now officially into my 'big scarf phase', which is why I'm so taken with Sara O'Neill's Eadach brand. Her 'Pirate Queen Sunset' silk dress pictured here (right) costs €600 and will be available to buy at Brown Thomas Create in Cork, which opens on September 10 at the Patrick Street store. Also available will be the red 'Children of Lir' long silk dress, €600, while her 'Queen Medb' oversized silk scarf and the 'Banshee Dark Rose' silk scarf are both €210 from eadachbysaraoneill.com.
Scarf envy extends to Sarah Swan's Cuba Collection of 100pc cotton scarves, which are made in Italy. They cost €175 and are available at Emporium Kalu in Naas and from her website, sarahswandublin.com.
Stylist and blogger Ciara O'Doherty got the idea for her new accessories brand, Taylor & Rose (taylorandrose.ie), when she was looking for a really special headpiece for a shoot. "I wanted something unique, luxurious and affordable and after searching high and low, I realised that this was a collection that I wanted to bring to life myself," says Ciara, who hails originally from Galway,
Ciara says Taylor & Rose is all about hair couture like a soft elegant hair vine, an opulent regal crown (such as the one I styled for our cover) or an embellished hairband with great earrings, as Sarah Morrissey wore in our shoot at the InterContinental Hotel in Ballsbridge (intercontinentaldublin.ie, below). The Taylor & Rose 'Blair' luxe pearl headband is a good investment buy at €75, while the 'Andrea' oversized Baroque gold cross earrings, €22, create, for me, a very D&G Italian mood.
On our cover of Weeken Magazine this this week, the Taylor & Rose 'Farrah' gold leaf crown headpiece costs €95. The Que-Va dress is available to order, €559, from 1st Floor, Jenny Vander, 50 Drury St, Dublin 2 (que-va.com). The 'Celestial' curved pearl earrings are €650 from Helena Malone Goldsmith (helenamalone.ie). Make-up is by Aoife of Brown Sugar (brownsugare.ie) using Mud, their new make-up line. That stunning lipstick is in 'Blackberry' and costs €18. It's available from Brown Sugar and Callan & Co (callanandco.ie).
