ACTRESS, author and now fashion queen - Amy Huberman has dipped her toe into the fashion world by launching her own shoe collection.

ACTRESS, author and now fashion queen, Amy Huberman has dipped her toe into the retail world by launching her own shoe collection.



“I’m not an Imelda Marcos”, insists the 33-year-old whose ‘Amy Huberman Collection’ for the Bourbon label rolled out last week with just one product – a €119, high-top leather wedge boot available in three shades.



Naming her shoe styles after favourite movies, Amy debuted on the Irish retail scene with a soft launch of her ‘American Beauty’ leather ankle boot.



It went into 40 stores around the country in grey, black and camel with a promotional poster of Amy wearing Irish designer Tim Ryan at a pre Oscars party in Hollywood last February.



The actress is collaborating with Castleblaney brothers Jim and Barry McArdle from Co Monaghan who are behind Tommy Bowe’s Lloyd & Pryce mens footwear range.



The plan is to roll out a shoe collection of between 15-20 styles for spring –summer 2013. The leather shoes will be made in Portugal and Brazil and will sell for between €90-€140.



“We are just dipping our toe in to the market with the ankle boot. I am hugely interested in fashion and shoes, but I’m not a girl who has a million pairs of shoes, definitely not," said Amy yesterday.



The collaboration sees Amy chosing her favourite footwear looks which the McArdles’ have manufactured in Portugal and Brazil. The brothers are the fourth generation of their family in the footwear business started by their great grand uncle Matt Connollywho had shoe shops around Ireland.



Amy described the collaboration as “exciting. “It is something we are looking forward to exploring together, “ said the actress who is currently finishing off her second novel, due out in the Autumn. The Dubliner returned to writing after filming a pilot for NBC and filming the second series of ‘Threesome’ over the last three months.



Apart from being hailed as a style icon by Irish women, Amy has true fashion credentials and the designer gene in her blood.





Her London-born father Harold designed tailored coats for generations of Irish women and also worked with Henry White. He met his Wexford-born model wife Sandra when she was his house model.



It was Tommy Bowe, the Ireland and Ulster winger who proved to be the catalyst and helped get Amy’s shoe collection off the ground, it emerged yesterday.



“Tommy got Amy’s number for us because we felt she was the perfect fit for a new shoe collection, “ explained Jim McArdle of Budda Brand Industry.



“Amy is very well liked which is important to us. She is very fashionable and people like her girl-next-door qualities. Her boots are flying out the door and we’ve had re-orders which is very unusual at this time of the year because it is not a sale item,” he said.



Amy is a keen supporter of Irish fashion and that fact that she is working with an Irish brand probably helped secure the deal.



She almost always wears Irish on the red carpet and has been a poster girl for emerging talents like Dawn Fitzgerald, Matt Doody and Joanne Hynes.



Watched astutely for her wardrobe choices, crossing high street with designer buys and the odd rental, Amy's 2010 'Bardot' strapless wedding dress from Stephanie Allin's Dolce Vita range triggered fan sites online.Her Nando Muzi wedding shoes sparked endless traffic to Coconelle boutique in Dublin's Royal Hibernian Way.



Amy's two most recent IFTA 's gowns by Matt Doody (2011) and Dawn Fitzgerald (2012) consolidated her reputation as a style icon with a canny eye for what suits her.

Hollywood stylists applauded her silver thread 'Gatsby' fringed dress by Tim Ryan which she wore to a pre-Oscars dinner in February.



She wears high street brands like Ted Baker, French Connection and Awear and the Ingenue range from Cassis in Dublin's Westbury Mall is a firm favourite.



Her eye for a bargain shone at the royal banquet for Queen Elizabeth at Dublin Castle in May last year when Amy wore a stunning pink draped 'Romy' dress by Ingenue which had cost €134.



I can't imagine Amy doing a shoe collection without including her red carpet work horses....nude patent peep toe heels, her go-to shoe of the moment. It was 'the' shoe choice of most of the rugby WAGs at the recent Aoife Cogan/ Gordon D'Arcy wedding and it is the ultimate recession winner as it goes with everything.
