Alexander Wang is reportedly in the running to take over at Balenciaga.

The fashion house has confirmed Nicolas Ghesquière is leaving his role as creative director at the end of November. He has been the head designer there since 1997 and the label has already drawn up a list of potential successors.

According to GraziaDaily, Alexander is top of the selection.

"Wang is the master of translating street cool into catwalk magic," Grazia's Senior Fashion News Editor Katherine Ormerod said.

"He has an innate sensitivity for shifts in design and culture and has remained connected to the zeitgeist even while he's developed his luxury market chops. Whether he possesses Ghesquiere's intellectual rigour is up for debate but he does have a massive following with the hipster set."

Nicolas has been credited with turning Balenciaga's fortunes around since 1997.

Alexander created his first line of womenswear ten years later and is known for using a lot of black. He favours dramatic pieces, managing to mix smart tailoring with a grungy aesthetic.

Chief executive officer of Balenciaga Isabelle Guichot has confirmed the label has a selection of people they are eyeing for the creative director position, although they will not be forced into making a decision until they are ready.
