Alexa Chung on modelling's dark side
The style icon has revealed she once was asked to strip in someone's front room for a swimwear shoot at the age of 18.
She's spoken previously of her low self-esteem and negative experiences as a fledgling model, and how they made her nurture her sarcastic wit because of the terrible time she was having traipsing form one casting to another, but now she's admitted that there was an even darker side to the experience.
Speaking to The Times , she has revealed she was often put in awkward positions where she was asked to do things that she knew were "wrong", such as strip in someone's front room for a swimwear casting when she was just 18.
"I already knew it was wrong. So, you know, if there was a casting where some creepy man there had gone on to his flat in Ilford, and, you know, 'Take your clothes off...' and if I'd have done it, I won't tell my mum because I know that's wrong," she admitted.
Chung also said she kept the experiences from her parents, saying she "didn't want to tell them too much about the reality of what was going on."
Now 29 and a successful TV presenter, model and style icon, Alexa was spotted and signed up by modelling agency Storm at the age of 16.
"I get flashbacks now. Loads of flashbacks," she said of how the experience still haunts her. "I'll be reminded of something because I've sort of blocked it out and I don't really think of those days. Like, recently, I was like, "Oh my God. That's so not on."
