There's no escaping it now, it's officially party time. We're on the countdown to New Year's Eve, so get your glad rags on, practise your favourite dance moves and enjoy every tinsel-coated minute. We deserve it after the year we've had! But it can be a little hard to rediscover your inner disco bunny, so check out these handy helpers.

Shiseido Natural Finish Cream Concealer, €28.50

Easy to blend (although it works best if you've applied cream under your eyes first), doesn't crease and gives good coverage with a natural-looking, non-greasy finish. Pricey, but you only need to use a little at a time so it works out at quite good value.

Nars Larger Than Life Long-wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto, €25

Yes, it's pricey, but this pencil definitely lives up to its name, staying firmly in place for several hours. The richly pigmented black shade has just the right consistency. It goes on very easily, without any smudging or tugging, and provides a precise thin line.

Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara, €21

Dramatic divas will definitely appreciate this. Just a single coat gives a wide-eyed look thanks to a big rubberised brush that catches every lash, and the long-lasting formula is buildable. But it's worth using a lash comb or dry mascara wand in between each inky black coat to protect against clumping. Two coats later, and lashes look very full and definitely appear lengthened, even while still feeling soft and flexible. And there won't be any drama at the end of the night as this mascara comes off easily.

Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Epatant, €29.50

Party eyes don't always need to be smoky, y'know. This flattering khaki-gold-taupe shade (it depends on the lighting!) with its gorgeous silver shimmer will definitely take you from day to night. Use as a sheer wash initially and build up to a more dramatic look as the sun goes down. Its mousse-like texture boasts great staying power, and won't crease. Recommended.

Benefit Sun Beam, €19.50

Less is always more, but if it isn't a party without some sparkle, then this creamy highlighter is just what's needed. Exercise some restraint though: a tiny dot on the top of each cheekbone is all that's required for a golden glow. Particularly good on darker skin tones.

Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep, €27

The days of popping out for a blow-dry at lunchtime are well gone (thanks, Mr Noonan!), so hair-care lotions and potions are becoming ever more essential. And this one is great for giving a lift to the limpest of locks. Simply spray a spritz or two on to damp hair, comb through and then plug in the trusty hair-dryer. Even after straightening (yes, it's an addiction, and I don't care -- thankfully this conditioning lotion protects against heat damage), hair still benefits from the volume boost. And it also works its magic in between shampoos on those mornings-after-the-night-before. Great for fine to medium locks.

Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powder, €44

Even complexions that have enjoyed eight hours of unbroken sleep will appreciate a sweep or two of this. That kind of night-time activity is rare at this time of the year, so the benefits of this mattifying powder shouldn't be ignored. Think added radiance, thanks to a clever blend of light effects and contouring. Apply to forehead, cheekbones and the bridge of your nose for best effect.

Smashbox O Glow, €26.50

Sometimes blusher can be scary. But not with this little number. All you have to do is apply the award-winning clear gel to the apples of your cheeks and in just a few seconds, you'll be sporting a blush in the best shade for your skin tone.
