Your debs stories: 'My tickets and outfit cost €570'
With three days to go to her debs night, Eimear Gilhooly from Wexford is far from nervous.
"I've been to four debs already - three this year and one last year," Eimear (18) told the Irish Independent. With the dress, shoes and bag sorted for the evening, one of the minor remaining challenges for Eimear is convincing her boyfriend not to wear jeans.
"He didn't know what a corsage was before. He was thinking of wearing Converse, but I'm not sure that'll work," she said.
Eimear also noted that expenses can creep up for that special night.
"Everyone is so broke now. For two tickets to the debs, it's €120," she said. "But then I counted up the dress, shoes, bag, make-up, tan and hair, and that's €450 without the tickets," she added. "None of that includes your money for drinks either."
Nevertheless, Eimear sees the big event as an investment - a farewell to her classmates of six years at Presentation Secondary School in Wexford town.
Another attendee she's looking forward to seeing is Sister Marie Murphy, the Irish teacher adored by students, who will also be there on the night.
"I'm getting my tan done on Monday, and then I'm going to get up pretty early on Tuesday," she said. "I've my hair appointment at 12pm, and my make-up will be at around 1pm," she added.
"My family will be coming over for pictures, so I'll need to be dressed to go."
