‘I’m going away’ - Stephen Fry quits Twitter until May
Millions of Stephen Fry fans will be left feeling rather unhappy at the news the comedian is taking an extended break from Twitter – for the next three months.
Fans of his quirky updates and pictures will have to wait until May before he rejoins the Twitter universe.
In an official statement on his website, the 57-year-old said that he would be leaving the social media site until May, but didn’t divulge the exact reason for his extended break.
He said he would simply be “going away” leaving some sources to speculate that the British actor and author may be taking an extended honeymoon “away” with his new husband Elliot Spencer (27).
“Just a quick note to say that I’m going to be away until May. During that time I will be taking a holiday from twitter and, with a few exceptions, not tweeting at all,” he wrote on his website.
“There is a small number of pre-arranged tweets that have been scheduled using Hootsuite and Tweetdeck, so they will go out automatically. They do not mean, of course, that I am monitoring my feed or that I have plugged into twitter,” he added.
He also pleaded to his followers to stop sending him Direct Messages, as “it was impossible” for him to look at hem if he wanted to have “anything close to a life.”
“I do not attend at all to Direct Messages. Apologies to those friendly types who leave DMs for me, but I’m afraid they won’t be read. It is simply impossible for me even to look at them, let alone respond to them, and have anything close to a life,” Fry said.
“Have a wonderful time without me. I know you will,” Fry said, before signing off his twitter account.
Fry recently presented at the BAFTAs, and revealed the “splendid” moment he got engaged to 27-year-old Spencer, adding that he didn’t notice the 30-year age gap between the pair.
