With decorated hurler Henry Shefflin announcing his Kilkenny retirement on the same day as Zayn Malif has left One Direction, Twitter has been full of a potential job swap of sorts.

At a packed press conference in Kilkenny today, the most successful hurler ever to grace the GAA announced that he would be calling time on his 16-year Cats career.

Just hours later, Zayn Malif left the biggest boy band in the world in order to be "a normal 22-year-old".

With speculation over what Shefflin's next career step will be, social media has been light-heartedly suggesting that the Kilkenny man could possibly take over from Malif and bring the Irish contingent to two along with Niall Horan.

Here is a flavour of the tweets.
