The singer opened up to Time Magazine about his friendship with the country music princess and the infamous Drake-inspired needlepoint present.

On his MTV documentary ‘9 Days and Nights of Ed Sheeran’, the red-haired singer shows off the impressive needlepoint that Taylor gave him as a present, which he duly framed with pride in his living room.

Referring to the creative DIY gift, Ed testified that Taylor is “very crafty”.

“I know she’s 24 but she’s a sort of middle-aged woman trapped in a 24-year-old’s body. She hangs out with her cat and sews things," he added.

As for himself, the singer admitted:

“My soul age differs from day to day. It can be 8 or 80”.

The unlikely friendship of the two musicians stems back to when Taylor helped Ed crack the American music scene in 2012.

“She owns the US pop scene. She knows how to do it," he said.

"In England I was a commercially successful artist, but coming into the US as an alternative artist playing shows with Snow Patrol, she not only opened the door into the pop world but showed me how to do it".

If the needlepoint and cats didn’t give the game away, Sheeran proves that Taylor is really the wholesome country girl that her image implies:

"Next time, I went to her house and she cooked an apple pie. She cooks really good shit, man. Then she gets out this little Taylor guitar and she's like I've had this idea for this song..”

The pair have supported each other on their respective sold out concerts- with Ed joining Taylor on stage in London in February as she kicked off the European leg of her tour.
