Danes lights up the red carpet at awards show as Ellen ties the record
Ellen DeGeneres brought her total to a record-tying 17 People's Choice wins when she picked up the trophy for favourite daytime TV host and a special award for favourite humanitarian.
The humanitarian award was presented by 'Spy' star Melissa McCarthy, who picked up two awards herself - both favourite comedic movie actress and comedic TV actress.
She informed the audience that DeGeneres has raised more then $50m for charity, although DeGeneres downplayed her achievement as she joked: "This is crazy - so, so deserved, but crazy."
She added: "It's a little strange to get an award for being nice and generous and kind, which is what we're all supposed to do with one another, that's the point of being a human. Would I call myself the Mother Teresa of talk shows, the Dalai Lama of daytime? No, but I'm sure someone out there has."
Other big winners were Sandra Bullock, who picked up favourite movie actress, and Johnny Depp, who took home favourite dramatic movie actor.
Among the best-dressed stars at the awards was 'Homeland' actress Claire Danes, who lit up the red carpet in a metallic, backless dress.
Danes accepted the award for favourite premium cable TV show with 'Homeland' co-stars Mandy Patinkin and F Murray Abraham.
