Christy Dignam’s family urge the public to 'have some respect' after false rumours of his death emerge
The family and band mates of Aslan’s Christy Dignam have said rumours that he has died are insensitive as the star recovers in hospital this weekend.
The 53-year-old singer is battling a rare blood cancer and was admitted to hospital on Thursday.
In a statement released today the singer’s daughter Kiera Dignam quashed rumours that her father had passed away and urged the public to “try and have some respect for him”.
Updating fans on her Facebook page Kiera wrote: “Thankfully rumours are not true my da is not dead!
“It's hard enough for us to try to cope with everything so please try to have some respect for him and us as a family before spreading rumours,” she wrote.
The singer said her children had been upset by the false rumours.
“We appreciate people who care and understand that most is genuine concern but I have young kids who are worried about their grandad and an elderly grandfather worried about this.
“Thank you all but this is not a public business this is our lives so please give us this time,” she wrote.
The band was forced to cancel this week’s concerts after the lead singer became unwell.
Christy has been battling cancer since 2013.
