The X Factor theme for next week's show will now be Queen versus Michael Jackson after the judges held an emergency meeting with producers.

Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh revealed live on The Xtra Factor on Sunday night (November 2) that the theme for next week's performances would be disco. But just hours later, after a meeting with show bosses, they had changed their minds yet again.

Producer Mark Sidaway tweeted: "Disco just died. We've a new theme coming..."

The official X Factor Twitter account then announced: "@SimonCowell, @CherylOfficial,@OfficialMelB, Louis and the producers have agreed a new theme based on two iconic acts #xfactor #newtheme.

"The #newtheme is...Queen versus Michael Jackson."

It was previously thought that the week would revolve around a girlband versus boyband theme.

Former X Factor contestants One Direction and award-winning singer Sam Smith have both been confirmed to perform on the results show next week.

Meanwhile, the judges have said boyband Stereo Kicks need to up their game after narrowly escaping eviction.

Stereo Kicks performed Perfect by Pink in the sing-off against Lola Saunders. They landed in the bottom two after performing Everybody (Backstreet's Back) by the Backstreet Boys on the Halloween show.

Simon said: "It's all about song choice. I don't think that song yesterday registered. It was a copycat song. We've seen them do much better the week before. If they come back with the right positive attitude [and] the right song, they've still got a shot."

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini added: "They've been in the bottom two twice now, they really need to up their game".

Simon knows the key to staying in the competition as all four of his Over 25s category, Jay James, Fleur East, Stevi Ritchie and Ben Haenow, remain in the running.

When asked to explain their success on The Xtra Factor, he said: "Great artists, great songs. They're popular, they're likeable. That's what it's all about.

"They really, really work hard and that's why the public are voting for them."

The X Factor returns on Saturday, November 8 at 8pm.
