Saved Strictly Come Dancing contestant Laura Whitmore has revealed she had a gut feeling that she would be in the dance off.

The TV presenter and her partner Giovanni Pernice were in the bottom two at the weekend, but the BBC One series judges opted to save her ahead of EastEnders star Tameka Empson, and Whitmore says she freshened up her costume on Saturday night in anticipation of having to dance again.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on spin-off show Strictly - It Takes Two on Tuesday night, the 31 year old talked about having to defend her place.

She said: " You prepare yourself for that, after Melvin (Odoom) going in the first week that gave us a bit of a kick.

"Every time you dance could be the last time you dance.

"When we did the dance I ripped my tights and I quickly ran backstage and said, 'in case we're in the dance off, I'm going to change my tights'."

But she went on: "Being in the dance off, as scary as it is, it's quite nice to go out there and prove yourself again and take on what the judges said.

"I was trying to take on all that and not look at my mother, who was in the audience blubbering, and I was saying to myself, 'Don't look at your mam'."

Whitmore added of being in the bottom two dancing couples after the public vote: "It kind of gives you a little bit of a boost, a bit more fight."

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty also appeared on the BBC Two show with her partner, Pasha Kovalev, and said of her Mission Impossible-themed Tango which she performed at the weekend: "I felt hot."

However, the pair's dance fumbled at the start when Munchetty got stuck in a harness and Kovalev admittted: "I was looking at that buckle and it wouldn't unbuckle, it was so stressful."

Ball revealed three of the upcoming song and dance combinations for this weekend - Judge Rinder and Oksana Platero will be dancing a Viennese Waltz to Lulu's Boom Bang A Bang, Daisy Lowe and Aljaz Skorjanec are performing a Rumba to George Michael's Careless Whisper, and Claudia Fragapane and AJ Pritchard will do a Foxtrot to Carly Rae Jepson hit I Really Like You.
