Hip hop’s premier couple Beyonce and Jay-Z were accompanied by Kate Middleton and Prince William at a basketball game in New York City.
The two couples met at the Brooklyn Nets v Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game in New York City’s Barclay Centre on Monday night.
According to Vanity Fair, the foursome were actually seated on opposite sides of the court -
During warm ups, rapper Jay-Z gave some of the Nets players tshirts which read ‘I Can’t Breath’, in support of the death of Eric Garner and the protests that were going on outside the Barclays Centre. (Eric Garner perished at the hands of a police officer who put him in an illegal chokehold in July.)
Vanity Fair reports that when pregnant Kate and William walked in during the third quarter while the game was going on, spectators began to cheer and applaud the British royals as they scrambled to take pictures on their camera phones.
This did not phase the couple, who sat courtside and sipped water while munching on popcorn. Kate, who is due her second child in April, wore a tweed Tory Burch coat and skinny jeans for the occasion.
It appears Jay and Bey were also in great spirits as the hip hop legend enjoyed his 45th birthday on December, silencing rumours of a rift in their marriage.
After the game, the two couples were introduced. According to an eyewitness, ‘God Save the Queen’ by The Sex Pistols was being blasted through the arena at the time, and we like to think they’re telling the truth about that.
